Dr. Safi was born in the valley of Pech, Afghanistan, but he spent much of his early years in his parents’ hometown,KhasKunar, to take refuge from the war. With three scholarships from the United States Agency for International Development, he studied at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon and later at Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York City. He holds a doctorate in education from TCCU and has worked in Afghanistan, Kuwait, and the United States. Dr. Safi has been married to his graduate school sweetheart for 42 years and has three children and three grandchildren.
