Ken from ‘Barbie’, actor Ryan Gosling said that he is disappointed by the fact that Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig were snubbed in the major categories for the Oscar Nomination. He stated that he was “honored” to be nominated for a best-supporting actor where he was “portraying a plastic doll named Ken”.

But he further added, “But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.” Not just Gosling but a lot of people expected that Gerwig and Robbie would be nominated for the Best Director and Best Actress categories for their contributions.

Instead of featuring them in the main categories, the two of them received nods somewhere else. Margot Robbie received recognition as a producer in the Best Picture line-up, while Gret Gerwig was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay alongside her husband Noah Baumbach.

It goes without saying that ‘Barbie’ is the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2023. It made a market of $1.44bn (£1.14bn) around the globe. In a statement, Ryan Gosling said, “I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films”. He addressed Robbie and Gerwig as “the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally-celebrated film”.

He further added, “No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.” The actor further added, “Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees.”

Gosling also shared that he is “so happy” for actor America Ferrera who received the nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Ferrera also agreed with Gosling and expressed her disappointment for Robbie and Gerwig not getting a chance in the deserving categories.

Counting the number of nominations shows that Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ is the show stopper with a total of 13 nominations. ‘Barbie’ is followed by 8 nominations is total. Both of these movies were released on the same day July 21, 2023. Both of the movies made a huge box office record, however, Barbie gained more attention as audiences of all ages went to enjoy this colorfully intriguing movie.

Another movie named ‘Poor Things’ received a total of 11 nominations. This film is perhaps based on a very scientifically eerie concept where the brain of an infant is transplanted into the body of a grown woman. Let’s take a better look at the nominees this year.
