Danny Flynn’s fantasy art features in the Netflix drama, Eric
Artist Danny Flynn’s ‘Bee-eater’ painting features in the Netflix drama, Eric, starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Vincent, a father desperately searching for his missing son, who disappears on his way to school. Danny’s painting hangs on the wall of the New York apartment where Vincent lives with his wife and 9-year-old Edgar, who has created a blue monster called Eric.

The Bee-Eater is one of Danny’s best-known paintings, previously used as the cover of a compendium of Danny’s book-jacket paintings: Only Visiting This Planet: The Art Of Danny Flynn (Paper Tiger).
Set in 1980s New York, the six-part thriller sees Vincent becoming convinced that if he can get Eric on TV, his son will come home.
“It was a great privilege to be asked to use one of my older paintings in Eric. I would have loved to have worked on the creature design too, having spent many years creating hundreds of original characters living deep inside the moon for my own brand, Moonaliens,” said Danny.
Originally from Scunthorpe, Danny’s obsession with the moon and its oddball inhabitants has been a feature of his life ever since his student days at Kingston College of Art. After graduation he started a successful freelance career creating book jackets for many of the greats of science fiction and fantasy – Sir Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and Robert Heinlein as well as Game of Thrones creator George RR Martin.
