Zedar Broadous, is proud to collaborate with Unity Unlimited, Inc. in bringing Opal’s Walk for Freedom to Los Angeles, CA, as part of a powerful nationwide movement honoring Juneteenth. Inspired by his cousin, Dr. Opal Lee, this globally recognized movement commemorates the end of slavery in the United States while amplifying the ongoing fight for freedom, equality, and justice.

Rooted in faith, community, and cultural empowerment, Rev. Zedar is bringing together leaders across Los Angeles to create an experience that reflects the city’s powerful legacy of activism and creative influence. This collaboration will unite residents, artists, organizations, and change-makers for a day centered on reflection, celebration, and forward movement.

The event will begin with an opening ceremony featuring community voices, spiritual leaders, and cultural influencers, setting the tone for a meaningful and energizing experience. Participants will then take part in the symbolic walk, honoring the distance tied to delayed freedom and reinforcing a shared commitment to justice and equity.

“Juneteenth is not just a day to remember the past; it is a day to commit to action in the present,” said Dr. Opal Lee.  “By coming together in cities across the nation, we honor those who fought for freedom and empower the next generation to carry forward the work of justice, civic participation, and unity.”

This year, the walk will take place in seven cities across the United States, creating a national celebration of freedom, resilience, and hope. Residents of Los Angeles County are invited to register, walk, and be part of a growing movement that celebrates community, cultural awareness, and the collective responsibility we have to uphold liberty and justice for all.
