H-M Bay Announces Recipients of the Lawrence Hayman Education Fund Scholarship

Five Students Awarded $10,000 Scholarships to Support Higher Education and Career Aspirations

H&M Bay is proud to announce the inaugural recipients of the Lawrence Hayman Education Fund Scholarship, a new educational initiative established to invest in the future of the families who have helped build the company for generations.

Following a competitive application process, the Lawrence Hayman Educational Fund Committee selected five outstanding students to receive scholarships valued at $10,000 each, awarded at $2,500 per semester over two years. The scholarships support dependent children and grandchildren of eligible current and retired H&M Bay employees as they pursue college or trade school education.

Named in honor of H&M Bay co-founder Lawrence Hayman, the scholarship reflects the company’s longstanding commitment to family, education, and creating opportunities for future generations.

2026 Lawrence Hayman Education Fund Scholarship Recipients

Rhyan Kirby, daughter of Christopher Hash, H&M Bay Northwest Division Supervisor, is attending Salisbury University to pursue a Master of Social Work degree. Upon graduation, she plans to work for Child Protective Services, dedicating her career to supporting vulnerable children and families. Rhyan views social work not simply as a profession, but as a lifelong calling to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Owen Fischer is the grandson of Leonard Fischer, H&M Bay Tennessee Warehouse Manager. Owen will attend the University of Nebraska at Kearney, where he is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Biology on the pre-veterinary track. Following graduation, he plans to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree specializing in large-animal medicine. His long-term goal is to establish his own veterinary practice while managing a successful cattle operation, serving rural communities through exceptional veterinary care and promoting agricultural sustainability.

Jase Todd, grandson of retired H&M Bay employee Cindy Hayman, is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science at Salisbury University on the pre-physical therapy track. Following graduation, he plans to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Inspired by his own recovery after a high school sports injury, Jase hopes to help future patients regain strength, mobility, and confidence through rehabilitation.

Karsyn Cooper, granddaughter of H&M Bay Sales Professional Crystal Cheney, has been accepted to Gardner-Webb University, where she will pursue a nursing degree. She plans to begin her career as a registered nurse before continuing her education to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. Inspired while caring for her great-grandfather during his battle with dementia and through volunteer work with organizations including WinShare and the Jerusalem Project, Karsyn is passionate about improving the lives of children through compassionate healthcare.

Kelley Adams, daughter of retired H&M Bay employees TJ and Sharon Adams and sister of Jay Adams, H&M Bay Texas Division Dispatch, is attending Penn State New Kensington to study business accounting. Kelley hopes to build a career helping small businesses better understand their finances, manage budgets, and make informed financial decisions. She believes accessible financial guidance can strengthen small businesses and the communities they serve.

Investing in Future Generations

The Lawrence Hayman Education Fund was established to provide educational opportunities for dependent children and grandchildren of eligible current and retired H&M Bay employees with at least five years of full-time service. Scholarship recipients are selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated character, career aspirations, and a comprehensive application process that includes transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a personal essay.
