The origin of the word Kilimanjaro is marked by the Chagga word “Kilima” which refers to a small hill and for such a large mountain it should have been “mlima” and “njaro” means the demon who creates cold. Yet another explanation of the word “Njaro” is derived from the Maasai word “Njare” meaning ” the source of water. As you can see Mount Kilimanjaro has a natural connection to the culture of people who live at its foothills. Because of that, Mount Kilimanjaro gained the status as a Geopark. The Mountain features like aquifer rock and mountain forest, are among attractions of international geological significance.
