
Backer support is accelerating SteadIP’s self-hoster-friendly tunnel network, including global gateways, automatic failover, custom domains and continued work on a self-hosted edition.

The milestone follows several weeks of rapid product development, infrastructure expansion and feedback from developers, homelab operators, makers and independent software creators.
SteadIP allows users to publish services running on a computer, home server, development machine or private network without opening router ports or requiring a static public IP address. Because the SteadIP client establishes an outbound connection, it can work behind NAT, carrier-grade NAT, restrictive firewalls and changing residential IP addresses.
Free users can create HTTP and HTTPS tunnels with an automatically generated SteadIP subdomain and HTTPS support. Verified accounts unlock additional capabilities such as custom domains, SSH and TCP tunnels, higher bandwidth allowances and support for multiple active tunnels.

Since launching the campaign, SteadIP has expanded its international gateway network across Montreal, Los Angeles, Chicago, Paris, Tokyo and Sydney. The newly added Sydney gateway provides a 10 Gbps regional option for users in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Users can select a gateway closer to their infrastructure or intended audience, helping reduce latency for websites, APIs, dashboards, webhook endpoints, development environments and remote-access services.
SteadIP has also introduced SteadIP Mesh, a built-in failover and load-distribution feature that allows multiple computers to join the same tunnel.
With Mesh enabled, a homelab server, cloud VPS, development computer and backup system can all serve the same public hostname. When one node becomes unavailable, SteadIP can stop routing traffic to that node and continue sending requests to the remaining connected systems.
Mesh is managed through a checkbox in the SteadIP web dashboard and does not require additional command-line configuration. Authorized computers join a mesh-enabled tunnel using the existing “steadip up” command.
The feature provides a simpler path to high availability for users who do not want to configure separate load balancers, DNS failover systems, certificate automation and health-monitoring infrastructure.
Additional campaign-era development has included improvements to the SteadIP command-line client and terminal dashboard, interface cleanup, tunnel monitoring, automated custom-domain configuration and numerous reliability fixes.
Work is also progressing on a Docker-based self-hosted edition for organizations and advanced users that want to operate SteadIP infrastructure on their own servers. The project roadmap includes additional gateway capacity and a dedicated IPv4 option for verified users who require a stable public address for legitimate hosting, remote-access or IP allowlisting use cases.
SteadIP is designed for developers testing webhooks, teams sharing client previews, students demonstrating projects, homelab operators publishing dashboards, independent creators launching applications and small organizations that need public connectivity without complicated cloud infrastructure.
