Grassroots organization seeks to coordinate services to Latino Population
(WorldFrontNews Editorial):- Port Chester, New York Aug 28, 2023 (Issuewire.com) – The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board officially launched this past Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Port Chester Day. The annual event, which is held at Lyon Park in Port Chester, offers a variety of vendors, food, music, performances, demonstrations, and information from a variety of governmental and non-profit organizations. The Port Chester Hispanic Advisory Board hosted a table at the event, where they distributed a guide to area resources, aimed specifically at the Spanish-speaking community in Port Chester and the surrounding area.
The grassroots organization was formed in early 2023 as a response to numerous requests from the community for access to resources. Juliana Alzate, Village Trustee and founding member of the Advisory Board, stated “I get questions from residents all the time. The problem isn’t necessarily a lack of resources – there are just so many, and they can be hard to find.”

Board member Rick Hyland explained: “It’s a challenge to find information because there is no centralized directory for all the services available to Village residents. This is something we hope to change”
In addition to the directory, the Board is also working on future projects to provide High School Students with community service credits through a variety of volunteer opportunities, a Spanish Language story hour for children at the Port Chester Library, and small informal, town hall-style events to serve as an open forum for Spanish-speaking residents to share their concerns and network.
