The next phase begins with 9-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon barrels, marking the first widely available expression under this new phase.
Long regarded as a cornerstone of bourbon craftsmanship, Anderson County, Kentucky, has shaped the state’s whiskey heritage for generations. Pride of Anderson County was initially introduced as a limited collaboration to highlight well-aged bourbon and rye from the region, released in small quantities through an online lottery. Building on that success, the project now continues as an ongoing single barrel series, showcasing the distinctive character of Kentucky-aged whiskey through carefully selected barrels, with additional expressions planned for biannual release.
“Each barrel of Pride of Anderson County reflects both tradition and careful curation, bringing together history, patience, and the bold Kentucky flavor Anderson County is known for,” said Peter Nevenglosky, co-founder of Rare Character Whiskey Company. “We will be releasing only 40 barrels in our spring 2026 release, reflecting the best of the best that we uncovered in our scouring of the rickhouses of one of the best distillers in the world.”
The current release features a 9-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon, aged in new charred American oak. In keeping with Rare Character’s approach to minimal intervention, each barrel is bottled uncut and unfiltered at natural cask strength and selected as a single barrel to reflect the variation developed during maturation. This marks the first Pride of Anderson County release shipping to all current Rare Character markets, with only two carefully planned releases per year, each representing a limited chapter in an ongoing Kentucky story.
