A total of nineteen people were shot to death in central Mexico. The incident took place last Sunday and created a chaotic situation. The incident was declared by the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).

The shootout took place in a hosting illegal betting based on cockfights. The area is located in the small town of Las Tinajas in the Michoacan state. The authorities have been called around 10:30 pm after the shootout ended.

The FGE further stated, “19 lifeless bodies were found (16 men and three women), who had gunshot wounds,” along with several other injured people who were sent to the local hospital immediately.

However, the authority did not express any reason behind the shootout.

Michoacan and Guanajuato are the two most violent states as the turf war between the communities are always ongoing. These rival gangs are well versed in illegal activities including drug trafficking. They also trade with the stolen fuel.

The chaotic situation initiated earlier this month when some gunmen killed a mayor in Michoacan, suggesting that government officials mean nothing to them.

Last month, another brutal armed attack took place and killed over 17 people in the incident. The Department of Justice is assuming that the act is involved with the Jalisco cartel.

Since 2006, more than 340,000 murders took place in Mexico and most of them were cartel-related violence. Miguel Barbosa, the Puebla state governor said that Mexico is slowly turning into “a place for the sale and distribution of drugs.”

The attackers of the Las Tinajas shootout are still unknown however, the investigation is ongoing.
