ABOUT THE BOOK

“Does This Make You A Bully?” explores the many forms bullying takes in communities around the world and the hurt and disrespect it leaves behind. Written and illustrated with young readers in mind, the book approaches a serious subject with warmth and accessibility, inviting children and the open-minded, young-at-heart adults in their lives to see the issue clearly and talk about it honestly.

Van Dyke was inspired to write the book after witnessing bullying show up with increasing frequency in schools, on television, and across social media. “I felt that by writing this to reach our youth, it might slow down the negativity by the time they become adults,” he explains. His hope for readers is simple but enduring: that families keep reading together, keep talking with their children, and recognize that everyone has a gift worth sharing with the next generation.
