The president of the United States, Joe Biden, said in his first state of Union address that Vladimir Putin has “badly miscalculated with the invasion of Ukraine. He has now become more isolated from the world than ever. When the history of the whole episode will be written, Russia will become weaker than ever by losing all its strength.

Biden said, condemning the actions of the Russian president and framing the action as a battle between freedom and tyranny, he said, “Six days ago, Russia’s Vladimir Putin sought to shake the foundations of the free world thinking he could make it bend to his menacing ways. But he badly miscalculated. He thought he could roll into Ukraine and the world would rollover. Instead, he met a wall of strength he never imagined. He met the Ukrainian people.”

He further added that Putin might have thought that USA and NATO will not respond to this matter but “Putin was wrong. We were ready.

In the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Biden announced that the action would inflict a high cost on Russia and its president. It will have a severe impact on Russian oligarchs, economy, airspaces investment, and trade.

In his speech, President Joe Biden also spoke about the economy, Covid-19 voting rights, criminal justice systems, innovation, violence, supporting mental health initiatives,  and ending cancer too.

In the speech, Biden also acknowledged the endurance of the Ukrainian counterpart against the Russian militants for their resistance. He said, “From President (Volodymyr) Zelensky to every Ukrainian, their fearlessness, their courage, their determination inspires the world.

He also went on to say, “Let each of us here tonight in this chamber send an unmistakable signal to Ukraine and the world…we, the United States of America, stand with the Ukrainian people.”

Blaming Putin for rejecting the diplomatic efforts by the countries, he said that the US had, “prepared extensively and carefully”. He added, “And now that he has acted, the free world is holding him accountable. We are inflicting pain on Russia and supporting the people of Ukraine. Putin is now isolated from the world more than ever.”

Biden said that the US and its partners and allies have conducted economic sanctions on Russia. It has cut off the largest banks from the international financial systems, preventing their central bank from defending the Russian military campaigns, making Putin’s 630 billion “war funds” ineffective.

Biden said, “We are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments, your private jets. We are coming for your ill-begotten gains.”
