A minor explosion took place near Mumbai-Ahmadabad highway on Wednesday around 10 am. The witnesses described that there was a blast with a loud thud and flush. The device used for the explosion was not of high intensity as it contained metal balls, plastic bottle, and locally made jute fuse.  After this, an Improvised Explosive Device has been found on a state transport bus in Raigad during later part of the night which could cause havoc. The Maharashtra police are on high alert after the blast which took place consecutively on both Wednesday and Thursday. A parallel investigation has already been started by the Maharashtra Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) regarding the explosion.

Two teams of Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) has been sent to both the locations. The bomb which was found from the bus was defused by one BDDS team and another team collected the unidentified powder, metal balls. Samples found from both places have been sent for a forensic report at Mumbai forensic science laboratory at Kalina. From India, Today, IG, Konkan Range, Naval Bajaj described:

“The explosive device found in Raigad district is sophisticated as it contains a power source, detonator and was definitely planted with a serious intention. As of now, we haven’t found any similarities between the device that exploded at Mira road and the one found in Raigad district”.

The police of Maharashtra after the backwash of Pulwana attacks which killed 40 CPRF jawans have augmented their sweeps and scans to test any suspicious materials or bags at public places. An illegal crime under the Explosives Act has been scheduled after the bomb blast.
